Anti-Bias Education in Perinatal Health
Biases are short cuts our minds take to make decisions more quickly, or assist us in processing complex information/stimuli. It is when these biases are unchallenged or inform systemic action that they have potential to cause harm to others. We know this to be an unfortunate truth in perinatal health through data, statistics, literature, as well as an overwhelming number of first-hand accounts. This webinar will explore how we as clinicians, advocates, community members, and colleagues can be more conscious and consistent in our anti-bias thought and behavior. It will dive into the impacts that vias can have on perinatal health care as well as strategies for anti-bias care.
Participants of this webinar will be able to:
- Summarize how bias impacts perinatal health care and outcomes
- Apply Professor Kimberlé Crenshaw’s intersectional theory to perinatal health
- Describe strategies for anti-bias education in perinatal health
