Providing Mental Health Informed Care for Families Experiencing Miscarriage and Perinatal Loss
Please join us to explore this important topic with Evelyn Gama LCSW from The Motherhood Center. In this session, participants gained an understanding of types of pregnancy loss, symptoms of perinatal grief and the impact of loss on the family system. Participants learned how to support the progression of grief from acute grief to integrated grief within their role as a provider. We identified risk factors that contribute to subsequent mental health complications and diagnostic criteria that could indicate the need for a referral. We discussed the role of societal and cultural beliefs in understanding and supporting grief.
Participant of this webinar were able to:
- Recognize and describe types of perinatal loss and their physical, mental, and emotional symptoms for grieving parents
- Identify the phases of grief and the progression of acute grief to integrated grief, as well as identify diagnostic factors differentiating normative grief and mental health complications related to grief and traumatic loss
- Discover best practices for providing care or offering referrals to support grieft and related mental health complications
- Recognize and learn to understand societal and cultural beliefs around pregnancy loss and their impact on families' experience of loss
