The Role of the Community Birth Worker in Nurturing Parent-Infant Relationships
Please join us to explore this important topic with Hoda Shawky, pediatric nurse practitioner, trained doula, and maternal child health consultant.
TTAC was pleased to offer an opportunity to support doulas and other members of the perinatal workforce in supporting the emotional well-being of new mothers/birthing persons while in relationship with their infants. This webinar provided a relationally based approach to supporting the emotional needs of new parents and infants as they transition together through postpartum life. Central to this training was the experience of doulas/perinatal workers as they hold space for their clients and families. Recognizing the unique experiences of BIPOC families and that community doulas and perinatal workers know their communities best, this webinar empowers participants to apply learnings in a manner that best suits their own practices and communities.
Participants of this webinar were able to:
- Identify and describe two stages that a mother/birthing person goes through during the journey to motherhood/parenthood
- Identify three ways in which maternal/parent and infant well-being are mutually impacted through their relationship
- Discuss the ways in which doulas and perinatal health workers can help nurture the parent-infant relationships of their clients
