Using the Parental Stress Scale: A Practical Guide for Clinicians
Please join us to explore this important topic with TTAC's clinical co-directors Susan Chinitz and Gilbert Foley.
The purpose of this training is to help clinicians in the P+ECMH Clinics to use, score and interpret the Parental Stress Scale in their clinical work. The Parental Stress Scale is one of the measures that clinicians are asked by the DOHMH to use as part of their initial and follow-up assessments of children and families. It is an 18-item self-report scale that aims to measure the level of stress experienced by parents. Clinicians within the P+ECMH clinics have requested support in explaining the measure to parents, interpreting results and sharing these with parents in order to contribute to treatment planning. The training will cover the intended use of this measure, some of the psychometric properties of the scale, scoring the measure, interpreting results, and how to discuss the results with parents. Actual de-identified protocols, obtained by P+ECMH clinicians, will be used to practice these components within the training session. The training will include time to address clinicians’ concerns, and barriers to completion, including cases of resistance to the measure by clients.
Participants of this webinar will be able to:
- Understand the purpose of the scale
- Learn how to explain it clearly to parents
- Use results to guide family support and treatment planning
